Shirley – Practice Administrator
Shirley joined small animal practice straight from school and trained as a veterinary nurse on the job, working for 12 years in an ophthalmology referral practice before becoming Practice manager. She then left to become a full time mum and run the local pony club and school equestrian club. In her spare time, Shirley can usually be found in the middle of a field with her three dogs and horses. She also enjoys attending pipe band competitions with her childrens school band.
Kay is from West Lothian and has been working with us since 2004 when she joined us as a student of Edinburgh’s Telford College. Kay qualified as a registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN) in 2015. Kay has taken further exams in dermatology and assists Donald with the management of the referral dermatology cases. Kay is kept busy with four children Erin, Robyn, Freya and Lewis, a French Bulldog ‘Lulu’and her lovely ginger boy ‘Ollie Purrs’.
From West Lothian, Sam knew from an early age she wanted to work with animals, horse riding from 5 years of age and volunteering at Five Sisters Zoo from 9 years of age. Sam qualified as veterinary nursing assistant with an NC and HNC in animal care and joined Thistle Vets in 2015 and is starting training towards becoming a Registered Veterinary Nurse in 2017. As well as looking after all your pets needs, Sam also assists Donald in the Dermatology referral side of the Practice and runs physiotherapy clinics. Sam is a keep fit enthusiast and can usually be found in the gym or out running with her Two Springer Spaniels ‘Rory’ and ‘Evan’
Jill is a veterinary nursing assistant who has worked with animals from a young age, initially at the Edinburgh Dog and Cat home and later for 8 years and Edinburgh vet school. Jill joined Thistle Vets in 2014 and really enjoys working in small animal practice especially the interaction with pet owners and running physiotherapy clinics. She is kept busy at home with her husband, 2 young daughters and lots of pets including ‘Woody’ the Patterdale terrier, ‘Buzz’ the bearded dragon and various gerbils, hamsters and fish.
Sarah is from Edinburgh and qualified as a Registered Veterinary Nurse from Edinburgh College in 2017 and has been with Thistle Vets throughout her training for the three years. Sarah has a keen interest in nurse clinics and pet behaviour. When not working she spends time with her husband and ‘Jack’ a lovely Golden Retriever.
Teri qualified as a Registered Veterinary Nurse in 2000 and has worked in small animal practice since then including 13 years in an emergency out of hours hospital when she gained the Certificate in Emergency Critical Care. She was glad to return to the normality of day working when she joined Thistle Vets in 2016. Teri also has a Certificate in Exotic Veterinary Nursing and did zoo work working with Polar Bears, Tigers, Chimps and Leopards! Currently working towards a qualification in animal behaviour and when not studying enjoys spending time with her son and Border Collie ‘Colin’.
Gillian joined Thistle Vets in 2015 after many enjoyable years working in a Veterinary Ophthalmology referral
practice. She is married with two daughters and likes to spend her free time with family and friends and caring for her 3 dogs and 2 cats. Gill also has greenfingers and keeps all the plants around the Practice looking lovely.
